Forgiveness

How can we forgive?

First, we must understand the ultimate forgiveness, and receive that for ourselves.

Then, we can truly understand what it means to forgive ourselves and others.

The Ultimate Forgiveness and Restored Relationship:

-  God created us to have relationship with Him, but we chose to turn away from Him.

We are sinners by nature and choice. "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23

-  Our sin separates us from God. "The wages of sin is death..." Romans 6:23

-  God loves us and has provided a way for us to experience forgiveness of sin, abundant life while here on earth, and everlasting life in heaven. "...The gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 6:23

-  Jesus says, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." John 14:6

-  Jesus died on the cross for us. "Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, He was buried, and He rose again the third day." 1 Corinthians 15:3-4

- "Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord." Acts 3:19

-  Salvation through Jesus is a gift. "If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto salvation and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." Romans 10:9-10

-  A prayer to receive Jesus: Dear Jesus, I want to follow You. I turn from my sin and place my trust in You alone and ask for Your forgiveness. Right now, I receive Your gift of eternal life and confess You as Lord. Thank You for loving me and dying for me. Thank You for giving me new life. Amen.

-  Jesus reassures us with the promise of the Holy Spirit. "The Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you." John 14:26

-  If you placed your trust in Jesus for the forgiveness of sins, feel free to let us know! We can help you grow in your new start.

Now we can better understand how to forgive ourselves and others!

God's heart on forgiveness:

-  God commands that we forgive each other. (Ephesians 4:32)

-  God wants us to forgive others because He forgives us. (Colossians 3:13)

The Four Stages of Forgiveness:

1.       Face the Offense.

2.       Feel the Offense

3.       Forgive the Offender.

4.       Find Oneness, with appropriate boundaries.

Forgiveness is releasing your resentment toward your offender.

-          Releasing your right to hear I'm sorry

-          Releasing your right to be bitter

Forgiveness is reflecting on the character of God. Just as God is willing to forgive us, we are called to forgive ourselves and others.

Please contact us if you would like more assistance with this, or need help in any way.
